This Ikea nail polish rack hack is the easiest diy you'll do all year...So I have a ton of nail polish. A ton. When we moved my husband complained about a couple of the smaller boxes that just seemed beyond heavy for their size + I had to admit they were full of nail polish. The look that passed across his face was one of slight horror + plenty of shock.
Fast-forward a month after our move + he started taking notes on just how big of a nail polish rack I would need for all my little pretty baubles of color. And though I love his willingness to help my ever growing cause more often than not I'm an instant gratification type of girl so I voted that we make a trip to Ikea. Once I found out that they carry these I figured they would make for the perfect Ikea nail polish rack hack for a fraction of the cost of using anything else.
Side note: Before I ever go to Ikea I check their stock through their website, though this is something usually in stock it would still be a bummer to make a trip for almost nothing.
We picked up four of these BEKVÄM spice racks at about $4 each from Ikea Orlando. They are about 16 inches wide + over 3 inches deep. I had considered wider sizes in the past but they really just aren't practical when sharing space with a spouse. Our walls are a light almond color so I decided to go with two shades of gold to get a nice golden sparkle minus the cheap metallic look. The first color was sprayed on + it was the sparkle factor. The next color was golden metallic acrylic paint that I sponged on.
So far I've only added the second gold paint color to one of the racks (on the bottom) but I'll be getting to the others soon. My strong suggestion though is if you are only using one color be sure to prime the spice racks first or the wood will pretty much suck up the paint. One of the things that I love most about these little BEKVÄM spice racks is that they are solid wood so they aren't just going to fall apart on me.
The racks originally went up on the wall mid last week but I ended up stopping at Walgreens on my lunch hour one day, in all honesty for toothpaste, only to stumble across a crazy little sale they were having on some beauty goodies. So I picked up a few colors to add to my racks + keep my nails polished through the season. My hubby thinks I should add another four racks beside this one but I don't think I'm prepped to have that many color choices staring me in the face at once.
So what's your favorite or "go-to" Ikea beauty hack? My next task is to figure out the best way to use their RÅSKOG turquoise utility cart in my Master Bathroom. It just may end up doubling as a nightstand.
**Update: Last week while I was making dinner my husband finished painting for me so here they are!
Love that they came out so well ♥
